Principal Julie SwanWelcome to Prune Hill Elementary School, home of the penguins!  We currently are home to approximately 485 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  We offer music education, physical education, library, and media classes, as well as iPad and Chromebook access.  We have a highly qualified reading specialist in our LAP Reading program and special services available for those with individual needs.  The Camas School District’s Highly-Capable program is a cluster model offered in grades 3-5. Identified students are placed together in the same classroom for instructional purposes. These classrooms offer enrichment, acceleration, and/or curriculum compacting when appropriate in the content areas. Students who qualify in mathematics will be provided a trimester of extensions outside of the classroom.

We are a committed group of teachers and staff members who work enthusiastically to ensure an environment that fosters academic and social growth through high academic and behavioral expectations.  I am very proud of the generous spirit that our students embody, especially when tragedy or disaster strikes our world.  In the past years, student-led relief efforts have raised more than 2,500 dollars for relief efforts related to Superstorm Sandy (coin drive), hurricanes, Newtown, CT stuffed penguin drive, and most recently, our Ocean to Ocean jogging program dedicated to Boston, where our students collectively ran over 6,000 miles in honor of those who cannot run.  We annually promote literacy through a Read-to-Feed incentive program that feeds our local families in need.

We are dedicated to creating a kind and caring atmosphere where all students can feel successful and safe.  Part of that success comes from the strong ties between home and school.  We invite parents to participate in the classroom as a volunteer, accompany us on field trips, or become involved in the PTA (visit the PTA site).  We keep parents informed of events through Friday emails, website announcements, and student communication daily via student planners.  We encourage you to support our efforts by having your children consistently arrive on time, read together daily, and support strong study habits at home.   Together we’ll make a great team!

Penguin Pride… Respectful, Responsible, and Safe!
