Students have a number of programs that they can participate in outside of school at Dorothy Fox as well as through the Camas Community Education Program.

Fox Pack Swingin’ Ukes: (Grades 3-5)

Advisor: Dustin Hunley

Fox is famous for its ukulele program.  Our professional jazz pianist teacher, Mr. Hunley, puts a Jazz twist on creating the Fox Pack Swingin’ Ukes, who meet after school on Wednesdays.  They perform downtown Camas at the Tree Lighting Ceremony, at Camas High School, and other events throughout the year.

Science Olympiad: Grades (4-5)

Advisor: Lee Ellen Gilronan

The Science Olympiad Program culminates in a competitive regional tournament for qualifying teams.  All participating students practice problem-solving and working creatively to address challenge activities after school, and the school is allowed to bring 15 to the final event. Information goes home in the fall.  We typically have more students interested than there is the capacity which is why the grade levels are limited.

Fox Robotics: (Grades 2 & 5)

Advisor: Michelle Collins

This is a 5-week program in the Spring for students interested in advanced robotics.  Students participating in robotics in class or during after-school activities are invited.  If more students apply than there is room, students are selected by lottery.  Students practice after school and then culminate with a district competition event against the other elementary school clubs.

Student Leadership Team: (Grades 4-5)

Advisor: Cathy Sork

This club serves as a student council of elected students from each 4th- and 5th-grade class.   Each class is asked to elect a boy and girl representative in the fall.  The club meets before school every other week to be the student body’s voice at Fox.  Students begin with a half-day Leadership Workshop and work on leadership and communication skills throughout the year.  The SLT plans community service events like the Stuff the Bus Food Drive. They make recommendations to the principal about student issues, run assemblies, plan for recess activities, and help to solve school problems.

Safety Patrol: (Grade 5)

Advisor: Michelle Collins

Responsible fifth graders serve as crossing guard support at the corner of Sierra and 28th both in the morning and the afternoon.  Under adult supervision, these students help others to cross safely at this very busy and dangerous corner.  They serve our school in the sun, sleet, rain, and snow!  We are grateful for their leadership.  As a thank you, safety patrol students go to Oaks Park in June for a fun field trip.  Students are selected at the end of their fourth-grade year on qualities of citizenship, responsibility, and kindness shown at school.

Water Congress: (Grade 5)

Advisor: Lee Ellen Gilronan

Students prepare to debate environmental issues each Spring at Washington State University with other schools in the region.  Students get information about joining Water Congress in their science class.

KIA (Kindness in Action) Squad: (Grades 4-5)

Advisor: Josh Altmiller

This group of students builds a bridge between our school and Kent’s Place, a local senior living community. Throughout the year, they organize events and partnerships between our two groups.  They also promote kind actions among students around our school.

Students can also participate in Community Education at Dorothy Fox for a fee. (Grades K-5):

  • Afterschool Chess Class on Mondays in Cafeteria
  • Afterschool Art Class (Session available periodically on Tuesdays in Cafeteria)
  • Afterschool Lego Club on Wednesdays after school
  • Afterschool Mad Science on Wednesdays after school
