Honors Coursework Guide at Discovery High School

Why Honors class(es):

  • Parents and Students are seeking additional rigorous options at DHS
  • Provide rigorous extensions learning opportunities in addition to standard content
  • Provide In-depth application of content through extensions and projects
  • Can be embedded within already scheduled courses
  • Show student’s utmost academic potential on high school transcripts that can be seen by colleges, military recruiters and future employers.
  • Demonstrate advanced course(s) that students have access to and take part in as part of the college admissions process on a high school transcript.
  • Allow students to access college ready learning and skills without the standardized AP College Board curriculum

Honors Request Process

      • Honors classes are open to any student who would like to try them
      • Students may request through the forecasting process
      • The deadline to request honors is one month into any semester

Honors Requirements

      • Students will complete 2-3 projects in the class at a greater depth to be determined by the grading teacher.
      • The student will be expected to communicate with the teacher about the additional requirements and fullfill those obligations.

Honors Exit Request

    • If the additional requirements are proving to be too much a student may request an exit from the honors course up up until six weeks of the end of the semester.  The student will need to fill out an application to exit from honors.  A “W” or withdrawal grade will show on the transcript.  After that point, the student will receive a grade based on their work completed for the standard course.
